Getting married in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of North Carolina? There are some technical aspects of marrying in NC that are more business than romance. Yes getting a marriage license is not as romantic as the other parts of wedding planning but applying for a Marriage license in Asheville is one of those things you have to do. Here is some more information about getting a Marriage license:
Marriage licenses are issued in Asheville between 8 am and 5 pm, by appointment only at the Buncombe County Register of Deeds Office which is located at 205 College Street Asheville, NC 28801. You should plan to arrive by 4:30 pm. The phone number is 828-250-4303 for more questions.
Since these services must be in person because they have to verify each person’s identity and witness their signing, they ask that you only come in at your scheduled time. You can make appointments online here.
Both parties must be present with your valid photo identification AND social security card. You can fill out your Asheville Marriage License Application prior to arriving. Filing applications online are only held for 30 days. You can also fill this out upon arrival at the Register of Deeds office.
How much does a marriage license cost?
The fee for a Marriage License is $60.00. The license is valid for sixty (60) days from the issue date and is good for use anywhere within the state of North Carolina.
The Buncombe County Register of Deeds accepts Credit/Debit, personal checks, money orders, and/or cash as payment for a Marriage License. Make checks and money orders payable to Register of Deeds.
