Dusty Blue Charleston, SC Fete at Magnolia Plantation
Saturday’s Dusty Blue Romance shoot in Charleston was gorgeous. Magnolia Plantation’s Carriage House was the perfect location for this Romantic shoot steeped in Southern Tradition. It is surrounded by stunning live oaks, and overflowing with rustic, old Southern charm situated on the banks of the Ashley River.
Rooted in rich history and the deep culture of the South, the beginning of Magnolia Plantation dates back to 1676. In 1870 the Drayton Family extended an invitation to visitors to experience their beautiful gardens. Today, at nearly 500 acres Magnolia Plantation has the distinction of being America’s oldest public gardens.
Southern Traditions
One of the southern traditions celebrated at the shoot was burring a bottle of Bourbon at the ceremony site. The tradition states that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the wedding site it won’t rain on your wedding day. True believers say you must do it exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be full and buried upside down. Then on the day of the wedding, you dig it up and share a glass with the wedding party after the ceremony. A few more classic southern inspired aspects of the day were having chicken and waffles for dinner, a classic 1948 Oldsmobile named Penny as the getaway car, and of course grits for the perfect favors.
About the Couple
Cody and Samantha met at a College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They both attended school and an internship there, spending a lot of time together. Their friendship started and quickly took off. The two started dating a year after they met. At the end of their first year dating, they graduated and moved to Charleston SC, his hometown. That same year he proposed, after a fancy dinner and a stroll in the park. Little did Samantha know, waiting at top of the hill was a proposal.
Currently, Samantha is in cosmetology school in hopes to open her own salon. Cody is working as the volunteer coordinator at a local church. Both are creatives that enjoy working on podcasts, blogs, graphic design, and art together. Samantha is a sucker for a night stroll on the beach. And the two are always down for some shopping.
