It’s that time of year again! It’s FALL! The Perfect time for an Andrews Family Session. Andrews is a tiny town in Western North Carolina and I just love the fact that there are so many hidden gems here. Not to mention when fall hits western North Carolina its glorious! Its October and the weather just got cooler so you never know when it will actually feel like fall, but when it does its fantastic. Between small town pumpkin patches and fall festivals, it is the best time of year!
There is history in these tracks. The building of the Richmond and Danville Railroad was completed in Andrews in the spring of 1890, the same time the original depot was built. Andrews was named in tribute to the railroad’s second vice-president, Col. A.B. Andrews. From its humble beginnings, Andrews grew from two homes and one store to a growing community of 1,748 citizens in 1930.
In 1951 operation of the railroad was stopped and the steel rails were taken up and sold. But the railroad was not entirely forgotten. In 1988, the state of North Carolina bought the 67-mile scenic railroad line. In 1988 the state leased the 67 miles of track to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway. The first GMSR excursion train billowed into Andrews on October 15, 1988. It was the first passenger train in town since 1948.
In late 1999 GSMR sold to American Heritage Railways. The new owners made a small name change in the line. It is now called the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. While the new buyers do not currently offer trips from the Andrews depot, it may do so in the future.
I have been photographing the West family for years. I have loved watching Michele and Hannah grow and become stunning young women. Last Thursday was beautiful. One of the first days its really felt like fall with a coolness in the air. We went to a few of our favorite spots and laughed and had a great time together.
Michele is getting her masters in business. She loves to run and is training for a half marathon. She also loves to travel. Hannah is a Freshman at Western Carolina University and is also majoring in Business. She loves to spend time with friends. Tim is a pilot and flight instructor. And in the words of Michele, ” Mom keeps us all in line.” haha.
